Country Interventions - Lao PDR
  • Capacity building initiatives relating to water and sanitation in 12 towns in Lao PDR.
  • Other activities include:

    • water quality and quantity assessment;
    • settlement, community and social mapping;
    • capacity building at community level and for the water and sanitation service providers (Water Supply Enterprises).

  • Use of poverty mapping and gender assessment methodologies developed by UN-HABITAT.
 
Planned Activities

  • UN-HABITAT will contribute US$0.56 million (2006-2009) for the Northern Central Region Water Sanitation Supply Project covering 12 towns and another US$0.5 million for the Phase II of the ADB assistance programme covering 21 towns.
  • Other activities include:

    • Capacity building support for 16 Provincial Nampapa (PNP);
    • Hygiene Promotion;
    • Gender Mainstreaming in Water and Sanitation Utilities;
    • Community-based Biogas Projects;
    • Arsenic Mitigation;
    • Solar Energy linked with Water and Sanitation Demonstration Pilot Project;
    • Household Water Treatment systems;
    • Community-led Total Sanitation in selected urban communities;
    • Co-operation with Ministry of Health and processing of MoU with Ministry of Public Works and Transport.
