Capacity building initiatives relating to water and sanitation in 12 towns in Lao PDR.
Other activities include:
water quality and quantity assessment;
settlement, community and social mapping;
capacity building at community level and for the water and sanitation service providers (Water Supply Enterprises).
Use of poverty mapping and gender assessment methodologies developed by UN-HABITAT.
Planned Activities
UN-HABITAT will contribute US$0.56 million (2006-2009) for the Northern Central Region Water Sanitation Supply Project covering 12 towns and another US$0.5 million for the Phase II of the ADB assistance programme covering 21 towns.
Other activities include:
Capacity building support for 16 Provincial Nampapa (PNP);
Hygiene Promotion;
Gender Mainstreaming in Water and Sanitation Utilities;
Community-based Biogas Projects;
Arsenic Mitigation;
Solar Energy linked with Water and Sanitation Demonstration Pilot Project;
Household Water Treatment systems;
Community-led Total Sanitation in selected urban communities;
Co-operation with Ministry of Health and processing of MoU with Ministry of Public Works and Transport.
